Delivery man attacked in pizza place robbery

DACULA - A pizza delivery man was attacked and brutally beaten early Sunday by three masked men aiming to rob a Domino's in Dacula, police said.

Thanks to quick-thinking on the part of the store's manager, however, the bandits reportedly made off with only a meager take - two pizzas.

The delivery person, a 45-year-old Dacula man, was ambushed just after midnight by three bandanna-wearing men wielding a baseball bat and gun. The robbers rushed the victim as he stepped outside the 465 Dacula Road eatery to make a delivery, beating him in the face, according to a police report.

The victim suffered a deep laceration to his forehead and a swollen-shut left eye. He remained coherent and provided police with a statement but was whisked to Gwinnett Medical Center for further treatment.

Once inside the store, the robbers reportedly demanded that the manager open a locked employee door. Instead, the manager retreated to a walk-in cooler, locked himself inside and called 911, the report says.

The robbers swiped two pizzas the delivery man was carrying and hastily left in an unknown vehicle, witnesses told police. No further suspect descriptions were available Monday, and no arrests had been made.
