Prep Roundup: Lions rebound for 3rd place in 7-AAAAA

SUWANEE - The Peachtree Ridge boys bounced back from a semifinal overtime loss to Collins Hill to take third place in Region 7-AAAAA with a 71-53 win over Mill Creek. The win sends the Lions to a first-round Class AAAAA state playoff game next week at Brookwood.

Khalid Mutakabbir scored 24 to lead the Lions (20-8) while C.J. Blackwell scored 19 points. Rasheed Fischer also finished with 11 points.

Mill Creek (12-14) received 14 points from Paul Evans and 11 from Ronald Wamer. The Hawks open next week's state tournament on the road against South Gwinnett.

BOYS BASKETBALL

Meadowcreek 80, Central 75

LILBURN - John Ruff led Meadowcreek with 28 points, to help the Mustangs beat Central Gwinnett 80-75 in overtime Saturday.

Charles Johnson added 20 points for the Mustangs (24-3) and Brian Williams scored 19 points for Central.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Central 50, Shiloh 46

LILBURN - Central Gwinnett was down by eight at the half but came back to take a 50-46 victory over Shiloh on Saturday.

Dria David led Central with 29 points and Tiller Smith scored 11 points for Shiloh.

Providence 44, Eagles Landing 41

NORCROSS - Maggie Brown led Providence (19-8) with 16 points and Amelia Allen scored 15 to help the Stars take a 44-41 win over Eagles Landing on Saturday.

GIRLS SOCCER

Mill Creek 6, Columbus 0

HOSCHTON - Lindsay Kempf scored two goals for the Hawks, to help Mill Creek shut out Columbus 6-0 on Saturday.

Kari Goodbar, Hannah Eison, Jaci Carithers and Cortney Emmert each contributed a goal, while Taylor Cornelius got the shutout in goal for Mill Creek (4-1).

Grayson 1, Alpharetta 0

CHATTAHOOCHEE - Molly Williams had five saves and got the shutout, while Samantha Lange scored the Rams' (4-0-1) lone goal at the 14-minute mark, as Grayson took a 1-0 win over Alpharetta on Saturday.

Parkview 1, Walton 0

LILBURN - Top-ranked Parkview beat No. 2 ranked Walton 1-0 on Friday to remain an undefeated 4-0 for the season and win its 35th straight game.

Maureen Buff scored the Panthers' only goal, while Chelsea Ramsey saved a penalty kick in the game and had five saves for the shutout in goal.

BOYS SOCCER

Brookwood 3, Norcross 0

SNELLVILLE - Theo Yang scored all three goals for the Broncos to help Brookwood shut out Norcross 3-0 on Saturday.

Stefan Gojic and Dabin Ji each had an assist for Brookwood. Tim Brown attained his third shutout in goal for the Broncos.

Grayson 2, Alpharetta 1

CHATTAHOOCHEE - Austin Clark and Davis Selby each scored a goal for Grayson, to help the Rams remain undefeated 5-0 after being Alpharetta 2-1 on Saturday.

Buford tops Carrollton, Gainesville

GAINESVILLE - The Buford girls took a 4-1 win over Carrollton, and beat Gainesville 5-0 on Saturday.

Audrey Manitte and Jordan Poole each won their singles matches. Cortland West and Michelle Hanley won at No. 1 doubles and Kathryn Bradshaw and Ashton Simpson won at No. 2 doubles for Buford against Carrollton.

In the second match, Manitte, Poole and Burge each won their singles matches. Courtland West and Michelle Hanley won at No. 1 doubles, and Molly Davis and Ashton Simpson also won at doubles for Buford (4-1).

BOYS TENNIS

Buford beats Carollton, Gainesville

BUFORD - Buford defeated Carrollton 3-2 and Gainesville 5-0 on Saturday to remain undefeated 5-0 for the year.

In the first match Ben Hunter won at No. 1 singles, Fletcher Cline won No. 2 singles, and Preston Benson won No. 3 singles for Buford.

Against Gainesville, Hunter, Cline and Benson each won at singles for the Wolves.

Andrew Platt and David Markes won at No. 1 doubles and Michael Becker and Matthew Gates won No. 2 doubles.
