LAWRENCEVILLE - An 8-acre land purchase Tuesday will give rise to a 38-acre future park west of Lawrenceville, officials said.
The $1.16 million purchase from Elite Land Development Corporation provides access on Lakes Parkway to 30 acres of county-owned property along the Yellow River, Community Services Director Phil Hoskins said.
Part of the acreage was previously donated to the county, while the rest was part of a right of way purchase for a road project along Ga. Highway 316.
While officials haven't identified funds to create a park on the land, Hoskins said the greenspace is located in a western Gwinnett area officials have identified as a "park gap," where services are sparse.
"Once again, we need to thank Gwinnett voters for allowing us to preserve valuable greenspace throughout the county," Chairman Charles Bannister said in a press release, referring to the 1 percent sales tax that provided funding for the purchase.
