Armstrong named volleyball All-American

Wesleyan senior Anne Marie Armstrong has been named to the PrepVolleyball.com All-American Team. She was one of only four Georgians on the team of 150 athletes representing 41 states.

Armstrong, the Daily Post's 2008 volleyball player of the year, has signed a letter of intent to play basketball for Georgia.

Four locals in GACA hoops game

Four players from Gwinnett County have been picked for the Georgia Athletic Coaches Association high school all-star basketball games.

Anne Marie Armstrong of Wesleyan, Blanche Alverson of Buford and Tiffany Clarke of Norcross were selected for the North girls team. Jeremy Olsen of Collins Hill was named to the North boys.

The North-South games will be played at Savannah State on March 22. The girls game is scheduled for 2 p.m., with the boys game to follow.

Broncos qualify six from wrestling sectional

Brookwood had six wrestlers qualify from the Class AAAAA East Sectional on Saturday at Camden County High School.

Joe Epps (130 pounds) placed third, Kyle Smith (152), Chris Roman (171) and Corbin Nilson (215) were fifth. Will Goodwin (145) and Vincent Ogbonnia (285) were eighth.

The top eight wrestlers from each weight class at the sectional advance to the state tournament this week at the Arena at Gwinnett Center.

Prep Rally features Eagles' Olsen

Gwinnett Prep Rally, a Gwinnett County high school sports TV program, airs highlights from South Gwinnett-Berkmar and Peachtree Ridge-Duluth basketball and breaks down last week's state swimming championships. Featured athletes include Collins Hill's Jeremy Olsen, Berkmar's Tyra Smith, Peachtree Ridge's Khalid Mutakabbir and South's Adonis Harrison.

Gwinnett Prep Rally, hosted by Daily Post editor Todd Cline and sports editor Will Hammock, airs Tuesdays at 6:30 p.m. and 10:30 p.m. on GCPS-TV and each Wednesday-Saturday at 7:30 a.m., 6:30 p.m. and 10:30 p.m. on GCPS-TV.

Lions fall in girls lacrosse opener

Peachtree Ridge's first varsity lacrosse game ended Monday with a 20-16 loss at West Forsyth. Rachel Harper (five goals), Jennifer Hennelly (four goals), Sarah Bilodeau (four goals) and Kristyn Nock (three goals) led the Lions' offense. Goalkeeper Erin Palanza saved nine shots.

Mill Creek beats Forsyth in hockey

Mill Creek's club ice hockey team defeated Forsyth 4-1 on Sunday night. Sean Lautzenhiser scored two goals and David Kelley and Caleb Rainey added a goal apiece.
