MONROE
Investigators seek the public's help in determining how a Monroe man came to be dead in his car along a wooded stretch of roadway in Bethlehem last week. Police found Artis Lamar Johnson, 45, dead Wednesday in woods near Tom Miller Road. The cause of death is under investigation, though foul play was not immediately apparent, authorities said. "There were no apparent injuries to the victim," said Barrow County Sheriff's Office Investigator Matt Guthas. An autopsy by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation to determine the cause of death is pending, Guthas said. Johnson, a former Athens resident, has an arrest record in Gwinnett dating back to 1998, when he was booked on robbery charges. Three years later, he was arrested locally for allegedly possessing drugs. The disposition of those cases was unclear Monday, as Gwinnett Superior Court was closed in observance of Presidents Day. Sheriff's Office officials urge anyone who had recent contact with Johnson to call investigators at 770-307-3080, ext. 3083.More like this story
