Gwinnett Daily Post
Before wrestlers can be crowned state champions next week at the Arena at Gwinnett Center, they first must make it through the sectional tournament this weekend.
This is the first year the sectional has been added to the wrestling postseason and it's intended to bring the state's top wrestlers together to determine a champion. All five classifications will have an East and West sectional today and Saturday. The top eight wrestlers in a weight class from each sectional will meet in Gwinnett to determine that weight's state champion. Only the top four from each sectional will advance in Class A. Many of Gwinnett County's schools will travel to the coast to wrestle in the Class AAAAA East Sectional at Camden County High School. Buford and Greater Atlanta Christian will compete at Jefferson in the AA East Sectional and Wesleyan travels to Social Circle for the Class A East Sectional. The sectionals are a qualifying tournament and no points or scoring will be used until next week at the state tournament.
