SUWANEE - The Gwinnett County Board of Education approved four leadership appointments Thursday during its monthly business meeting.
Three principal appointments are effective July 1, district officials said.
Susan Bearse, an assistant principal at Chattahoochee Elementary, will take the helm at Cedar Hill Elementary after principal Beverly Smith transfers to Peachtree Elementary. Bearse, who has a doctorate in educational leadership, has worked for Gwinnett County Public Schools since 1997.
Eric Parker, the principal of D.M. Therrell High School of Health Sciences and Research in Atlanta, will lead Shiloh Middle, as principal Devon Williams will open the new Couch Middle this summer. Parker previously worked in Gwinnett as an assistant principal at Richards Middle and Shiloh High. He has a doctorate in instructional leadership.
Nancy Martin, principal of Pinckneyville Middle, will lead Central Gwinnett High next school year. Jane Stegall, former Brookwood High principal, has been serving as Central's interim principal since Valerie Clark retired in December. Martin has a specialist's degree in educational leadership.
The school board also approved Kelly Herndon as the district's director of development, whose responsibilities include directing the GCPS Foundation Fund. Herndon's appointment is effective immediately. She has worked since 2002 as the director of recruitment and retention in the Division of Human Resources.
