WINDER - A Barrow County Schools custodian was fired Tuesday, a day after he was arrested on charges of child molestation and cruelty to children, officials said.
Michael Lee Womack, 55, of Winder is being held at the Barrow County Detention Center, Sheriff's Office Investigator Matt Guthas said Wednesday.
The victim was a juvenile, but Guthas said he could not release the child's age or gender.
The alleged incident, which took place in June, was unrelated to his employment, Guthas said.
Womack was the head custodian at Holsenbeck Elementary School in Winder, Barrow County Schools spokeswoman Lisa Leighton said. He began working for the district Feb. 3, 1997, and he had been out on administrative leave since Feb. 5, she said.
Leighton said she did not know the reason for Womack's termination.
