DULUTH - A Duluth bicyclist died Saturday afternoon when he darted in the path of an oncoming mini-van whose driver was blinded by the sun, police said Monday.
The incident occurred about 5:20 p.m. Saturday at McClure Bridge Road and Montrose Creek Drive, a residential area near West Lawrenceville Street and the city's historic downtown. Police on Monday identified the victim as Crispin Bautista Rebolled, who lived nearby with a roommate. His age remains unclear. "He had very little ID on him, as I understand it," said Duluth police spokesman Maj. Don Woodruff. The mini-van driver, a female juvenile, was not identified. An accident investigation unit completed an analysis of the scene, and police have concluded she won't be charged in the incident, said Woodruff. "The guy ran out in front of a car," Woodruff said. "There wasn't much (she) could do." The girl and her brother, a front-seat passenger, told police they were returning from a friend's house in Lilburn, driving westbound on McClure Bridge Road, when Rebolled pedaled in front of the 1999 Chrysler Town and Country she was driving, according to a police report. "She said the sun was in her eyes and it was very difficult to see," a responding officer wrote. Rebolled suffered severe head trauma and later died at Gwinnett Medical Center in Duluth, the report said.More like this story
