Bank seeks public's help in robberies

LAWRENCEVILLE - Wachovia is reaching out to the public for help in finding two men who held up its 3065 Lawrenceville Highway location Jan. 28.

The bank is offering a $5,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the two unidentified men, who also fit the description of those who robbed the same location on Jan. 13. Police have not confirmed whether they believe the robberies are connected. Because firearms were involved, the FBI is handling the investigation.

Police responded to a hold-up alarm at the bank at about 10:15 a.m. Wednesday and were told two black men wearing masks had entered the bank and pulled out handguns. One suspect hopped the tellers' counter but didn't get any money, reports said. Both men then left in what authorities believe was a red car. No one was hurt during the incident.

One man is described as 5 feet 6 and about 160 pounds, the other 5 feet 10 and about 200 pounds. Surveillance cameras show one man wore a white hooded sweat shirt and the other wore all black, his face mostly covered.

Anyone with information is urged to call Gwinnett County police at 770-513-5300 or Crime Stoppers at 404-273-8477.
