Mr. Don Slayter, age 67, of Buford, GA passed away suddenly on Saturday, January 31, 2009. He was predeceased by: his parents, Herbert and Dorothy Slayter. He is survived by: wife of 21 years, Joan Bailey Slayter, Buford, GA; son, Brent Edward Slayter, Lake Charles, LA; daughter, Monesa Gail Slayter Baker, Spring, TX; two grandchildren, Lamanda Danielle Slayter and Bobby Dean Baker, III; sisters and brothers-in-law, Carolyn L. and Steve Allen, Winder, GA and Sybil and Noble Shaw, Oakwood, GA; brother, Keith W. Slayter, Lula, GA; father-in-law and mother-in-law, J. W. and Nell Camp Bailey, Sugar Hill, GA; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Gayle and Gary Smith, Aynor, SC; and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. Mr. Slayter was born June 29, 1941 in Grant Parish, LA and resided in Louisiana and Texas for several years before moving to Georgia. He was a 1960 graduate of Dry Prong High School in Dry Prong, LA. He attended Barber College in Houston, TX. He was a Vietnam veteran of the U. S. Army. He was a retired Gwinnett County School Bus Driver having retired February 29, 2008. Don was former co-owner of the Holly Tree Antiques and Jewelry in Sugar Hill, GA. He was a craftsman of antique furniture. He was an avid fisherman, loved antique cars and enjoyed camping. He attended Hebron Baptist Church in Dacula, GA. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, February 3, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Flanigan Funeral Home with Rev. Mac Palmer and Rev. Charles Pirkle officiating. Interment will follow in Sugar Hill Cemetery in Sugar Hill, GA.
