Despite a game-high 27 points from Yonel Brown, Berkmar fell to Flowery Branch 62-53. Brandon Thompson added 14 points for Berkmar (1-9) as the Patriots will finish its tournament today at 10:35 a.m. against Dacula. Flowery Branch, which was led by 24 points from Ishmael Thomas and 10 from Byron Keith, will play Spartanburg (S.C.) today at 1:45 for fifth place.
BOYS ROUNDUP.
Richmond Academy 59, Newton 54
Newton missed a potential tying 3-pointer in the final 10 seconds, allowing Richmond Academy to hold on for a 59-54 win in the Jared Cook Holiday Classic boys semifinals.
Desmond Lofland (17 points), Christian Nobles (16) and Raston Brown (15) led Richmond.
Derrick Henry had a game-high 23 points for Newton, while Jared Mann added 11 points.
Spartanburg (S.C.) 61, Dacula 44
On the strength of a 16-2 run in the second half, Spartanburg pulled away from Dacula for a 61-44 win. Leading the Vikings (5-3) were Quan Fuller with 18 points, Andre Whitmire with 16 points and Kelvin Wilkins with 11 points. Spartanburg will play for fifth place today at 1:45 p.m. against Flowery Branch while Dacula, which was led by nine points from Dexter Walker, will play Berkmar at 10:35 a.m. in the seventh-place game.
GIRLS ROUNDUP
Hillgrove 59, Dacula 44
Hillgrove topped Dacula 59-44 to advance to today's fifth-place game against Berkmar at 12:10 p.m.. Tala Black led Hillgrove (8-4) with 17 points. Dacula (3-7) was led by 19 points from China Vinson and 10 points and nine rebounds from Breanna Overby.
Berkmar 60, Colquitt Co. 25
Ka'Vonne Towns led all players with 17 points as the Patriots (6-5) cruised to a 60-25 win over Colquitt County. Kenisha Watkins chipped in with 12 points while Shamicka Martin added 11 points. Colquitt County (4-3) was led by Umeaka Henry's 11 points and will play Dacula today at 9 a.m. for seventh place.
