SUWANEE -- Xavier Okoro had a huge day off the bench with team highs of 20 points and 12 rebounds, but it wasn't enough as Dacula (3-6) was sent to the consolation bracket of the Jared Cook Holiday Classic by Richmond Academy (8-1), ranked No. 7 in Class AAAA.
Raston Brown matched Okoro's 20 points and added five rebounds and four assists, while Christian Nobles and Desmond Lofland each chipped in 16 points, with Lofland pulling down seven rebounds, for Richmond Academy, which won 79-55 in Monday's matchup.
Dacula also got double-figure scoring from Terrance Hutchins with 12 points and Shay Agboola with 10.
BOYS
Newton 69, Spartanburg 35
Newton improved to 10-0 by cruising to a 69-35 win over Spartanburg (S.C.). Newton, which will play Richmond Academy today, was led by 15 points from Derrick Henry and 11 from Chuck Edwards. Spartanburg (4-3) plays again today at 1:45 p.m. against Dacula.
GIRLS
Newton 55, Colquitt Co. 40
Qaiserah Shariff scored 16 points to lead Newton 55-40 over Colquitt County. Newton (6-3) will play North Gwinnett today at 5 p.m while Colquitt County (4-2) will face Berkmar today at 1:45 p.m. Umeika Henry of Colquitt County led all players with 19 points.
Spartanburg 45, Hillgrove 43
Three Spartanburg (S.C.) players scored in double digits as the Vikings edged Hillgrove 45-43. Ashley Long led Spartanburg (6-1) with 12 points while Johnna Stripling and Lee Lee Young each scored 10 as the Vikings advance to play Duluth today at 3:20 p.m. Hillgrove (7-4), which had three players with eight points, will face Dacula today at 9 a.m.
