Duluth Dugout Club wraps Christmas gifts

DULUTH — The Duluth Dugout Club recently participated in a Christmas community service project.

On Saturday, baseball players and their families wrapped presents for the Children's Restoration Network, a nonprofit organization that focuses on the plight of homeless children in the community.

Players picked out gifts for specific children from the donated items and wrapped them, head baseball coach Matt Champitto said.

UGA student named Student of the Week

LAWRENCEVILLE — Nancye Lee, who is enrolled in the master's of social work program at the University of Georgia's Gwinnett campus, was recently named the UGA Student of the Week.

As a nontraditional student, Lee has used her graduate experience to pursue a new direction and explore opportunities outside of her past careers. She previously worked in the areas of finance and career training but left to pursue her lifelong goal of attending graduate school.

During her short time at UGA, officials said Lee has exemplified the qualities of leadership, determination and commitment that truly embody what it means to be an outstanding student.

Lee thrives on being active on and off campus, officials said. Outside of the classroom, she directs her efforts toward the initiation and organization of the Gwinnett MSW Student/Faculty Committee, designed to help facilitate and strengthen communication between students and their professors.

A mother of three, Lee is in her second year as a full-time graduate student. Although she is undecided as to how she hopes to use her degree, she is considering the area of mental health advocacy.
