WINDER -- A local community theater is helping children in need this holiday season have a merry Christmas.

The Winder-Barrow Community Theatre made a donation of $490 -- proceeds from ticket sales from its recent holiday production "The Little Town of Christmas" -- to Barrow County Holiday Connection. The money will be used to help purchase toys and other items for children in need this holiday season.

"To give back to the community at Christmas time, that's one of the best ways to do it," said Pam Veader, a member of the theater's Board of Directors. "We know that (the money) is going to a good place."

A portion of ticket sales for each of the theater group's shows is donated to a local charitable organization.

"We've been doing this since we started doing full seasons of shows, for the last four or five years," Veader said. "This is a community theater and that's one of the things we have always tried to do is share with the community any proceeds, any profits we might have."

The Winder-Barrow Community Theatre's next production of Mary Chase's Pulitzer Prize-winning play "Harvey" will open in late February.
