Suwanee urges Christmas tree recycling

SUWANEE -- As part of the Keep Georgia Beautiful program, Suwanee city officials are urging residents to "Bring One for the Chipper."

One old, undecorated Christmas tree, that is.

The city will be accepting unadorned Christmas trees for recycling from Dec. 26 until Jan. 16 at Sims Lake Park, 4600 Suwanee Dam Road.

Hours of operation will be from 7 a.m. until 5 p.m. and the drop-off area is in the parking lot to the right.

City spokeswoman Lynne DeWilde said the city recycled 923 trees in 2008, which provided "nicely scented mulch for parks throughout Suwanee."

For residents dropping off their trees between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. on Jan. 9, the city will provide seedlings, DeWilde said.
