BUFORD -- One man is in custody and authorities are seeking another in connection with a Tuesday afternoon theft at the Mall of Georgia.
According to reports, a witness who saw two men running out of Dillards with "armloads of items" was able to give police descriptions of the men and their getaway vehicle.
Officers found the vehicle a short distance from the mall on Plunketts Road, according to Gwinnett police spokesman Officer Brian Kelly, but both men fled on foot after pulling over.
After a brief foot chase, police apprehended 22-year-old Kaison Lamont Montgomery, of Atlanta. Kelly said he will be charged with felony theft by shoplifting and obstruction of a law enforcement officer.
According to police reports, the men boosted approximately $2,000 worth of high-end purses and wallets, designers such as Burke and Dooney.
Officers and deputies set up a perimeter and brought in K9 units in search of the second man, but had not found him at press time.
Anyone with information is asked to call the Gwinnett County Police Department at 770-513-5300.
