Brookwood wrestling tourney loaded with locals

The Gwinnett County tournament is not until next Friday, but nearly half the teams in the county will be at Brookwood today and Saturday.

The Brookwood Invitational will feature 15 teams, including nine from Gwinnett.

"It certainly give us an idea of where we stand as far as seeding with the Gwinnett County tournament," Brookwood coach Chris Cicora said.

The tournament includes host Brookwood, Berkmar, Meadowcreek, Grayson, South Gwinnett, Shiloh, Buford, first-year program Mountain View and Class A contender Wesleyan as the teams from Gwinnett. Tri-Cities, Loganville, North Forsyth, Towers, Flowery Branch and Lithonia are the other teams in the tournament.

Grayson, North Forsyth, Wesleyan and Loganville are among the favorites in the tournament, but Brookwood is coming off a tournament win last week.

The Broncos claimed the Titan Duals at Northview with a 5-0 record.

"I think we're sleepers still," Cicora said. "We're still growing. We're doing well, but we're still getting better."

A solid group of seniors led by Greg Cordle (160 pounds), Chris Roman (171), Vincent Ogbonnia (285), Jon Daniel (119) and sophomore Troy Long (112) have helped the Broncos to their early season success.

"It was a great weekend," Cicora said. "They have been getting better each week."
