LAWRENCEVILLE -- Heavy rains and testy winds overnight felled trees and power lines and could be responsible for a lightning fire, officials said Wednesday morning.
Fire officials had controlled all incidents by about 5:30 a.m. No injuries or major structural damages were reported, said Fire Department spokesman Capt. Thomas Rutledge.
Most incidents occurred on the eastern fringes of the county. The National Weather Service has issued a wind advisory for the remainder of today, with winds expected to reach up to 25 mph.
FIRE: Occupants at the scene of a house fire in the 3200 block of Beech Hollow Court in Loganville said a lightning strike could have caused it, Rutledge said.
Fire crews found a small fire in the home's garage at an electrical panel, which was quickly extinguished. An official cause has yet to be determined.
POWER LINES: Live wires were reported down at 4:35 a.m. on New Hope Road in Dacula. The area is no longer considered dangerous, Rutledge said.
TREES DOWN: Firefighters responded to reports of fallen trees at the following times and locations:
- 4:25 a.m. 1800 block Alcovy River Drive, Dacula;
- 4:31 a.m. 300 block Angie Court, Lilburn;
- 4:32 a.m. 2700 Palm Creek Court, Dacula.
The damage in each case is described as minor to moderate, Rutledge said.
