LAWRENCEVILLE -- Gwinnett police arrested three people Wednesday after responding to a burglary-in-progress call at a Regal Way residence.
According to authorities, a neighbor called just before 11:30 a.m. to report suspicious activity around the home.
"As police officers were responding to the location, (the neighbor) maintained observation of the residence and stayed in contact with the police department," said Gwinnett police spokesman Officer Brian Kelly.
Kelly said the trio was apprehended without incident as they attempted to drive away from the scene.
Arrested were 23-year-old Jose Gomez Jr. and Kathy Ruelas, 17, both of Norcross, and 18-year-old Kiri Almendares of Lilburn.
Kelly said it appears that the suspects broke into the home through a sliding glass door and stole several unnamed items, all of which were recovered.
According to reports, investigators later determined that the suspects also burglarized another Lawrenceville residence, in the 2600 block of Wildflower Lane, earlier in the day.
Jail records show this is Almendares' third theft-related arrest in 2009.
All three suspects are being charged with two counts of burglary, Kelly said, and the incident remains under investigation.
Additional charges may be forthcoming, Kelly said.
