Police seeking to ID remains found in Norcross

NORCROSS -- Police are hoping the public can provide information about human skeletal remains found Sunday in a wooded area near Forest Vale Drive.

According to reports, at about 12:30 p.m., a man and his dog out for a little exercise stumbled across the remains behind the 6900 block of Forest Vale Drive. Police were immediately called in, reports said, followed by Gwinnett police homicide investigators.

Police said crime scene investigators, detectives and Medical Examiners Office personnel processed the scene, and that the remains were collected and taken to the police department morgue.

An autopsy confirmed the remains as human, reports said.

Gwinnett police spokesman Officer Brian Kelly said the victim has apparently been dead for several months, but that the cause and manner of death are still being investigated.

"However, criminal activity is suspected and the matter is being investigated as a possible homicide," Kelly said in a release.

The victim's identity is not yet known, Kelly said.

Police urge anyone with information about the incident or the victim's identity to call the Gwinnett County Police Department at 770-513-5300 or Crime Stoppers at 404-577-TIPS.

Anonymous tips are welcome and could lead to a reward of up to $2,000.
