Schools release final redistricting maps

SUWANEE -- Gwinnett County Public Schools has released the final maps of the proposed boundary lines for six new schools opening in August.

The school system made changes to three of the five maps. The maps, available inside this story, reflect the final recommendations for the new school attendance zones, and the Gwinnett County Board of Education is scheduled to vote on the boundary lines at its meeting Thursday.

No new changes were made to the maps for Burnette Elementary in the Peachtree Ridge cluster and Jenkins Elementary in the Central Gwinnett cluster.

The other maps were revised as follows:

* Ferguson Elementary: Idlewylde Apartments will remain at Benefield Elementary, Sweetwater Middle and Berkmar High.

* Roberts Elementary: All Morningview subdivisions will remain at Suwanee Elementary.

* Snell Elementary/Midway Middle: The Greenvalley Road/Hickory Trail areas will remain at Britt Elementary. The Highpoint Road area will move to Norton Elementary, while the Gin Plantation/Ashlyn Rebecca/Hillsborough/Antelope Lane areas will remain at Norton Elementary, Snellville Middle and South Gwinnett High.

With these recent changes, the redistricting process will affect about 8,200 students at 29 existing schools, said Sloan Roach, spokeswoman for Gwinnett County Public Schools.
