Suwanee taking applications for its community garden

SUWANEE -- The city of Suwanee is taking plot applications for its community garden, Harvest Farm, at the 7-acre White Street Park.

City officials said the new, organic garden is expected to be one of the largest in the Southeast. Construction on the garden and core infrastructure will begin in early 2010 and is expected to be completed by spring.

Plots are available to city residents and nonresidents.

Deadlines for applying are Feb. 1 for nonresidents and Jan. 15 for residents, who will receive a discount on the plot fee.

Sixty plots of various sizes, including "a handful" of raised plots, will be available, city officials said. Upon its completion, the garden will includeapproximately 100 plots.

Guidelines and plot applications are now available at www.suwanee.com under Hot Links on the homepage or on the Community/Community Garden page.
