Mountain View to host youth football meeting Monday

* The Mountain View Youth Football Association will have an organizational and informational meeting Monday at 7 p.m. in the high school auditorium to discuss the 2010 football season.

Anyone interesting in coaching a team or serving as a volunteer is encouraged to attend the meeting, as well as parents of interested players. The meeting will be directed by Mountain View athletic director Jimmy Chupp and head football coach Tim Hardy.

Shiloh's Nchako honored by GPB

* Shiloh senior soccer player Corbyn Nchako was named Georgia Public Broadcasting's Academic All-Star Athlete last week.

Georgia high school principals nominate one senior male and one senior female for the award, and a panel selects 54 state-wide winners for the 2009-10 school year. Each honoree must have lettered in one or more varsity sports, have a GPA of 3.7 or higher, taken one AP course and received a 3 or better and have a combined SAT score of 1,880 or better or an ACT score of 36 or better.

Nchako was honored on air last week on GPB.


Ousted Georgia coaches will not coach in bowl game

* ATHENS -- The three University of Georgia assistant football coaches whose contracts will not be renewed have declined the opportunity to coach in the Bulldogs' bowl game.

Defensive coordinator and secondary coach Willie Martinez, defensive ends coach Jon Fabris, and defensive co-coordinator and linebackers coach John Jancek were offered the opportunity to coach through the bowl game but have declined according to head coach Mark Richt.

Georgia DE Robinson jailed

* ATHENS -- Georgia defensive end Montez Robinson was suspended indefinitely from the team Friday following his arrest Thursday on charges involving two altercations with a female student.

Robinson, 19, was released from the Athens-Clarke County jail on $2,000 bond Friday afternoon after being charged with misdemeanor simple battery and felony criminal damage.

It was Robinson's second arrest in a week. He was charged with underage possession of alcohol Monday after police responded to a call about glass breaking in a parking deck.
