LAWRENCEVILLE -- A local surgeon recently helped screen and provide footwear for nearly 70 homeless men as part of "Our Hearts to Your Soles," a national outreach event in downtown Atlanta.
Dr. Kali Arnold, a foot and ankle and sports medicine specialist, practices from Resurgen Orthopaedics' Lawrenceville and Snellville offices. Arnold said it was an honor to be a part of the program, which partners with "Soles4Souls," a Nashville-based charity providing footwear to needy people.
"The homeless commonly experience health problems from wearing shoes that don't fit correctly, and they are not always able to access the resources to help themselves," Arnold said. "Our goal through 'Our Hearts to Your Soles' is to get them back on the path to good health."
Atlanta, one of 42 cities to host the event, held the screenings at its Central Night Shelter.
Shelter director Katie Bashor extended her thanks to Arnold other medical professionals who volunteer their services.
"Their contributions allow us to expand our services to offer medical support to Atlanta's homeless men," Bashor said.
