DULUTH -- On Dec. 18, Wild Bill's will host its second free Fight Night, benefiting the U.S. Marine Corps Toys for Tots program.
Last year's event raised more than 4,000 toys for needy area children, making it one of the top single-day drives for Atlanta Toys For Tots. And with at least 14 professional and amateur mixed martial fights already signed, organizers expect this event to be even bigger.
"Of all the fights we do during the year, this is the biggest one and the one we get most excited about," said promoter David Oblas. "It gives us a way to give back, is a fun event for everybody and for a great cause, as well."
Headlining the show will be David Mewborn (7-2-1) out of Athens' HardCore Gym taking on North Carolina's Johnny Buck (3-4) at a contracted weight of 190 pounds.
Mewborn appeared on Season 7 of "The Ultimate Fighter" reality show while Buck recently made it to the finals of Wild Bill's light heavyweight tournament.
A new toy is the price of general admission to Fight Night 24, and tickets are available at the door as well as several local gyms that have been provided drop boxes. For a list of those gyms, go to www.georgiafighters.com
"This is a great opportunity for someone who's never been to a Wild Bill's Fight Night to check it out for the first time," Oblas said. "Last year we donated 4,000 toys ... We're going to load this card with as many fights as we can and we'll match or exceed the 4,000 toys this year."
