Road Atlanta hosting Santa's Toy Run this weekend

BRASELTON -- The eight tiny reindeer that pull Santa's sleigh would likely have difficulty keeping up with the horsepower in these cars.

But the toys donated during the second annual Santa's Toy Run will still get to children in need in time for Christmas, no matter the mode of delivery.

More than 80 cars will take to the track at Road Atlanta this weekend for three days of racing hosted by the National Auto Sport Association -- Southeast.

Those who bring along a donation of a new, unwrapped toy valued at $10 or a $10 gift card will receive an all-access, three-day event pass. Donations will go to local charities that provide Christmas gifts to children who might otherwise not receive them.

"The first year I felt was a total success," said Ron Rigdon, a member of Speedway Children's Charities Board of Trustees. "We provided over 100 kids with toys for Christmas and raised over $8,000. My goal this year is over 300 kids and $10,000."

In addition to the races, a concert will be held Friday night featuring performers Ashley Harris, Ryan Casper and Craig Gleason.

Car enthusiasts can show off their own rides Saturday in a car show. Entry is $5 along with the donation of a toy or gift card valued at $10. Trophies will be awarded to the top three cars in five classes.

Gates will open to the public at 7 a.m. Friday and Saturday and 8 a.m. Sunday. A complete schedule of events is available online at www.santastoyrun.com.

"The more people that come to the races, the more toys we get," Rigdon said. "All the money and all the toys go to the kids. This is all about the kids."
