Moonlight & Music brings energetic blues to Gwinnett

The Lawrenceville Tourism and Trade Association (LTTA) has paired with Gwinnett County Parks and Recreation to present the fourth of five live performances for its 2009 Moonlight & Music Concert Series.

Tonight's performance features the Savannah-based Eric Culberson Blues Band in their fifth Moonlight & Music performance. Culberson and company blend Texas blues guitar with Memphis soul to create authentic and energetic blues akin to the era of blues legends Freddie King, Johnny Copeland and Albert Collins.

The LTTA has also teamed in August with the city of Lawrenceville to benefit the Gwinnett Can-Do drive to accept canned goods at the Moonlight & Music series. All canned items will benefit the Lawrenceville Co-Op Ministry. Concert attendees are encouraged to bring a picnic dinner or visit one of the restaurants on Lawrenceville's historic downtown square.

Held on the fourth Friday from May through September, the Moonlight & Music Concert Series has become a Lawrenceville summer tradition, with LTTA sponsoring its sixth season. The event, however, is "carrying on a county tradition" that existed "many years before our organization," said Rebekah Cline, marketing and membership director for LTTA. The series will conclude Sept. 25 with Sons of Sailors: A Jimmy Buffett Tribute.

"We're hoping to create an economic impact for our local community through local dining and shopping for the evening," Cline said.

"As we bring regional and even national acts (for Moonlight & Music), we're hoping to stimulate visitor activity," she added.

Individuals from 16 different ZIP codes have attended previous concerts in the series, Cline said, as indicated by survey results.
