School enrollment in Gwinnett increases by 4,000

LAWRENCEVILLE - Gwinnett County Public Schools' enrollment numbers have increased by more than 4,000 students since the academic year began.

Monday's count - the third of five - showed 158,907 students, 56 below the district's forecast of 158,963, spokeswoman Sloan Roach said.

The number shows 1,276 more students since the second count at the start of the second week of school and 4,015 more students since the first count on the second day of school, Roach said.

Additional enrollment counts are planned for Aug. 31 and Sept. 8.

Historically, enrollment continues to climb during the year, with the post-Labor Day count more accurately reflecting school enrollment.
