Marie Scheidt secured a spot in the upcoming Duluth Fall Festival parade on Thursday after she was crowned Ms. Plantation South 2009.
Five seniors competed in the pageant at the Duluth assisted living facility Thursday evening. Plantation South resident Cassie Biro was named first runner-up and contestants ranged in age from 75 to 97. For the talent portion of the pageant, Scheidt, 95, sang "Let Me Call You Sweetheart," while Biro, 97, performed a rendition of "You Are My Sunshine." Contestant Betty Ebert recited a poem, Patsy Getz performed a comedy routine and Ellie Consiglio sang "Has Anybody Seen My Gal." The contestants also participated in a question and answer session hosted by Director of Activities Sarah Biehl. Duluth Mayor Nancy Harris served as a judge. As part of her duties as Ms. Plantation South 2009, Scheidt will ride in the Duluth fall parade, which is set for 10 a.m. Sept. 26. The parade will begin on North Peachtree Street before making a turn on Ga. Highway 120 and another turn onto Buford Highway.More like this story
