SUWANEE - With wins over Collins Hill and Buford, Brookwood's softball team won the Hawk-Bulldog Invitational on Saturday.
The Broncos beat Collins Hill 2-1 off a five strikeout performance from Brandy Jones. Jones (6-2) also got the win in Brookwood's 6-2 win over Buford, giving up just three hits. Jessica Neidigh went 4-for-7 in the two wins with five RBIs, a double and a triple. Rachel Rhodes and Mandy Blackwell each had two hits against Buford. Collins Hill finished second in the Platinum Division, only falling to Brookwood. Kasey Hawkshead (3-1) did not allow an earned run in the loss to Brookwood, striking out four in seven innings. Brittany Roley was 1-for-2 with a double and a run in the loss. The Eagles beat Buford 4-0 and Harrison 4-2 to reach the final game against the Bronco. Kayla Floor (6 hits, 6 strike outs) earned the win over Buford and Hawkshead (5 hits, 7 strike outs) picked up the win over Harrison. Brianna Cason and Chelsea Littlejohn each had two hits against Buford while Christina Parham (3-for-4), Sammy Lenahan (2-for-4), Paige Sneed (2-for-3), Caitlin Galya (1-for-2) and Cristi Wall (1-for-2) all had hits against Harrison. Also on Saturday, Buford beat Harrison 5-0 off a complete-game three-hitter from Karly Fullem (3-1). Lexi Overstreet went 3-for-3 and Chelsie Thomas was 2-2 in the win. SOFTBALL Grayson wins Gold Division HOSCHTON - Early-day wins over Norcross (5-1) and Peachtree Ridge (3-2) overshadowed a 1-0 loss to Northside-Columbus for Grayson as the Rams won the Gold Division of the Hawk-Bulldog Invitational. Alex King (3-0) struck out three in the win over the Lions and Kanami Cabrales (2-1) gave up just one hit in the win over Norcross. Cabrales pitched in all three games for the Rams, striking out 17. Taylor Denton went 3-for-9 on the day and Rachel McEloy went 3-for-8. Hawks wins 2 of 3 HOSCHTON - Mill Creek only allowed one run in three games Saturday as the Hawks beat Apalachee 3-0, lost 1-0 to Oconee County and beat North Forsyth 8-0. Pitchers Tori Mitchell (7IP, 2H, 5K) and Lauren Kaczynski (5IP, 6K) each picked up wins while Caroline Wilson threw a complete game five hitter, allowing five hits and striking out five. Chandler Griffin went 4-for-6 in the two wins with three runs and three RBIs. Against North Forsyth, Anyssa Robles went 2-for-2 with a double, two RBIs and a run. Peachtree Ridge wins 2 of 3 HOSCHTON - Peachtree Ridge picked up wins over Norcross (8-1) and Northside Columbus (5-1) but lost to Grayson (3-2) on Saturday. Pitcher Savannah Smarch went 1-1 on the day, but only allowed two earned runs and picked up her win against Norcross. Sam Pierannunzi went 4-for-8 with an RBI on the day while Chandler Frisbee was 5-for-10 with 4 RBIs and Gracie Shelton was 3-for-6 with an RBI. North Gwinnett 4, Etowah 0 SUWANEE - North Gwinnett hammered out eight hits in its 4-0 win over Etowah on Saturday with six different Bulldogs getting on base. Kaitlyn Smith (2-for-3) and Lexi Anderson (2-for-3) were the only two Bulldogs with multiple hits. Winning pitcher Jennifer Gray gave up two hits and struck out four in the win for North (8-4). Central splits SUWANEE - Kandi Duran pitched 61/3 innings for Central Gwinnett as the Black Knights topped North Gwinnett 3-0 in the Hawk-Bulldog Invitational. Central followed up the win with a 9-1 loss to Etowah. Kattie New led the Black Knights at the plate going 5-for-7 in the two games. Against North, Durham and Kaitlyn Hussey each had two hits and Kara Hembree was 2-for-3 in the loss to Etowah. Dacula tops Warner Robins, Houston Co. HOSCHTON - Allie Miles struck out 18 in one of two Dacula wins Saturday as the pitcher picked up a win over Houston County. Dacula beat Houston County 3-2 off the arm of Miles and the bats of Amber Carr (2-for-4, run) and Katie McMillian (1-for-4). The Falcons also beat Warner Robins 2-0 in a game Jenny Willis only allowed three hits. Brittany Taylor and Nicole Roberts each had a hit. Dacula lost its other game 3-2 to Milton despite seven strikeouts and two hits allowed by Alex Payne. VOLLEYBALL Lions sweep day at North Cobb KENNESAW - Peachtree Ridge did not drop a game Saturday in wins over Pace (25-16), Hebron (25-23, 26-24) and North Cobb Christian (25-20, 25-19). Brynna Robinson dished out 43 assists to go with her five blocks and four kills while DaLaina Sarden had eight kills and 14 blocks for the Lions (5-0).More like this story
