Prep roundup: Komisarow, GAC twice victorious

SUWANEE - Amanda Komisarow pounded down 20 kills and added 12 digs as GAC picked up a pair of wins at a volleyball play day at North Gwinnett on Thursday.

The Spartans (3-1) defeated the host Bulldogs 25-14, 25-12 before sweeping Hart County 25-13, 25-7.

Morgan McKnight also aided GAC's cause with seven kills, while Rachel Waldrop added six kills and five service aces and Catherine Chason dished out 27 assists and chipped in 13 digs.

Collins Hill takes two

GAINESVILLE - The Eagles (4-0) swept their play day to remain unbeaten on the season, beating the host Knights 25-12, 25-19 and North Hall 25-18, 25-16 on Thursday.

Abby Peabody had a strong all-around day with nine kills and eight aces, while Alex Raines contributed offensively with eight kills.

Wesleyan drops pair

ATLANTA - The Wolves (3-4), ranked No. 3 in Class AA/A, dropped a pair of matches to top-ranked teams in higher classifications, falling 27-25, 25-18 to host Woodward Academy of Class AAA and 25-18, 25-18 to Class AAAA Sandy Creek on Thursday.

Callie Bivings had five kills and five digs for Wesleyan, while Wilson Sprinkle had 11 digs and Anna Keappler finished with 17 kills and 15 digs.

Peachtree Ridge gets sweep

SANDY SPRINGS - The Lions (4-0) got 10 kills and three aces from DeLaina Sarden in a sweep of their play day Thursday at North Springs, beating the host Spartans 25-10, 25-23 and Grayson 25-7, 25-20.

Brynna Robinson also had a big day with 23 assists and two aces and Lucy Riddle had seven kills, three assists and three aces,

Grayson falls in three-setter

SANDY SPRINGS - The Rams fell to 1-3 after dropping their match to Peachtree Ridge, plus a hard-fought 25-23, 15-25, 25-18 loss host North Springs on Thursday.

Spencer Warren led the way for Grayson with 13 kills, while Kristi Cheesman added 10 kills and two blocks and Kara Seabrook led the defense with 12 digs.

Hebron earns split

JEFFERSON - The Lions (2-2) outlasted West Hall 25-22, 16-25, 25-10 before falling to host Jefferson 26-24, 25-13 on Thursday.

Elise Murray had a big offensive day with 11 kills, while Courtney Bishop added five kills and 11 aces. Becky Conner also had five kills, Alix Sutton finished with seven digs and Maddi Roof and Savannah Blalock handed out seven assists each.

Mill Creek sweeps three

HOSCHTON - The Hawks improved to 5-0 with wins of 25-7, 25-8 over Mountain View, 25-8, 25-7 over Berkmar and 25-18, 25-13 over Duluth on Thursday at home.

Moneshia Simmons slammed out 19 kills, many of them with help from Ashley Jackson, who dished out 68 assists and added 12 aces from the service line.

Providence rallies for sweep

SNELLVILLE - Caroline Adams had 15 straight service points in the Stars' opening 25-5, 25-15 win over Meadowcreek on Thursday at Shiloh.

Melanie Blackburn then helped turned the tide as Providence (4-0) rallied past the host Generals 20-25, 25-18, 25-22.

Central Gwinnett 4, Mill Creek 2

HOSCHTON - Jessica Porter threw a complete game and Jennie Chamness and Kandi Duran each had a hit and an RBI as the Black Knights (2-1) picked up a road win in the Hawk/Bulldog Invitational on Thursday.

The host Hawks (0-1-1) got a strong pitching performance of their own from Caroline Wilson, who gave up only two unearned runs in four innings, but it wasn't enough despite two hits, including a triple, from Brittany Bass and two hits and a stolen base from Chandler Griffin.

North Gwinnett 3, Grayson 1

SUWANEE - Lexi Anderson went 2-for-3 with an RBI and Alex McDavid added a hit and six solid innings in the circle as the Bulldogs (6-2) down the Rams in the Hawk/Bulldog Invitational on Thursday at North.

McDavid (3-1) scattered six hits and an earned run and struck out six over six innings, while Caroline Rogers, Kali Shimmin and Mandy Spangler each added a hit.

Duluth 1, North Forsyth 1

BRASELTON - Sam Metzler was 2-for-3 and Ivy Knox had a strong over all game, but the Wildcats (0-1-1) and Raiders couldn't decided the issue before the time limit at the Hawk/Bulldog Invitational ran out Thursday at West Jackson Park.

Knox went 1-for-3 and struck out five batters in six innings in the circle, while Casey Nellums also had a hit for Duluth.

Buford 3, Dacula 0

BRASELTON - Karly Fullem threw a complete game shutout, while Alysha Rudnik and Lexi Overstreet each went 2-for-4 and drove in a run as the Wolves (1-1) downed the Falcons at the Hawk/Bulldog Invitational on Thursday at West Jackson Park.

Fullem (1-0) pitched around six hits and a walk and struck out nine over seven innings, while Melissa Dickie also contributed a double and an RBI for Buford.

Collins Hill 9, Loganville 2

SUWANEE - The Eagles (7-0) remained unbeaten behind a big night at the plate by Chelsea Littlejohn (2-for-2, RBI), Mckenzie Halstead (HR, 2 RBIs), Brittany Roley (2-for-3) and Christina Parham (2-for-3, 2 RBIs) on Thursday at home.

Kacey Hawkshead (3-0) threw a complete game, scattering five hits and striking out six over five innings.

Newton 3, Parkview 1

COVINGTON - Grier Freeman had a double and an RBI and Taylor Fleming and Krista Gustafson chipped in a hit apiece, but it wasn't enough for the Panthers (3-3), who fell to the host Rams on Thursday.

Summer Rose (2-2) took the loss despite giving up just two hits and one earned run and striking out seven over six innings.

Alcovy 6, South Gwinnett 1

SNELLVILLE - Beth Rawson had a hit and an RBI, but the Comets (1-6) were defeated by the Tigers on Thursday.

Lindsey Hogan (1-4) went the distance and struck out three.

Forsyth Central 1, Providence 0

CUMMING - The Stars fell to 4-3 in a game suspended by weather after five innings Thursday.

Kylie Kleinschmidt (4-3) struck out 10 and gave up just three hits and one unearned run, while Jessie Kowalewicz, Cory Rodgers and Morgan Johnson each had a hit.

MADISON - A strong outing form Danielle Davis (1-2), who gave up just four hits and struck out eight over six innings, wasn't enough for the Bears (2-4) on Thursday.

Breannah McCrary and Brooke Stanford had one hit apiece to lead the Mountain View offense.

NORCROSS - Logan Morris went 3-for-4 with two runs and Caramia Tsirigos was 2-for-4 with an RBI, but the Wolves (0-1) fell to the visiting Jaguars in their opener Thursday at home.

Shiloh 10, SW DeKalb 2

SNELLVILLE - Monet Daly (3-1) gave up two unearned runs and struck out six over five innings and went 2-for-4 at the plate to lead the Generals (4-2) to a win over the visiting Panthers on Thursday.

Amber Stillwell, Amber Johnson, Tonisha Callaway and Jenna Carr each went 2-4 and Shanice Grant added a hit.

Brookwood erupts for two wins

BRASELTON - The Broncos (5-2) brought out the big bats in beating Peachtree Ridge 6-0 and Jackson County 8-2 at the Hawk/Bulldog Invitational on Thursday at West Jackson Park.

Jessica Neidigh (1-1) went 6-for-6 with two RBIs and scored four runs for the doubleheader and picked up the win in the nightcap with six strikeouts in a complete game.

Brandi Jones (3-1) also pitched a complete game with five strikeouts in six innings in the opener and went 1-for-3 with an RBI against Jackson County.

Other big performances for Brookwood included Mandy Blackwell (4-for-6, five RBIs), Susan Norris (2-for-4, RBI vs. Jackson Co.) and Julia Westbrook (1-for-3, 2 RBIs vs. Jackson Co.), while Jenny Blackwell, Emily Brantley, Rachel Rhodes and Daniella Ulloa each had a hit and an run.

Norcross 13, Campbell 1

BRASELTON - Diamond DeShields belted an inside-the-park grand slam and Jean Gillentine threw four shutout innings as the Blue Devils (5-3) downed the Spartans in pool play of the Hawk/Bulldog Invitational late Wednesday night at West Jackson Park.

Gillentine (2-2) gave up just two hits and struck out four, while getting offensive support from DeShields, Samantha Findling (2-for-3, RBI), Heidi Shape (1-for-2, RBI) and Alexandra Foulke (1-for-3, 2 RBIs).
