LAWRENCEVILLE - A Gwinnett grand jury indicted a Lawrenceville man this week for shooting and stabbing a woman in 2004, rendering a part of her brain useless.
Alden John Smith is charged with aggravated assault, aggravated battery, burglary and firearms possession. He allegedly attacked Inez Smith after breaking into a home on Fountainbleau Court in Lawrenceville on Oct. 14, 2004. Smith is accused of shooting Smith with a rifle and stabbing her in the head, an injury severe enough to deprive her of part of her cerebral lobe, according to the indictment. Smith was convicted of methamphetamine possession in July the same year. Because of that, the indictment says, he's being charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. Jail records show Smith formerly lived at the Fountainbleau Court address. His relationship with the alleged victim was not clear Thursday. Smith has remained in the Gwinnett County Jail without bond since the day of the alleged attack.More like this story
