LAWRENCEVILLE - Bill McCargo, global director of Cisco community relations strategy, will retire in late September, the company has announced.
Prior to Cisco's acquisition of Scientific Atlanta, McCargo worked with the company for nearly 31 years in a progression of human resources positions, assuming responsibility for the company's community relations function 10 years ago, according to a news release.
During his tenure, McCargo established the Scientific Atlanta Foundation and built the company's community relations function into an award-winning organization that is highly regarded in the region, the news release states.
"It has been an absolute honor to help build a company that has become a vital part of Cisco's bright future and an important force in support of its communities," McCargo said. "I am looking forward to continuing to work on issues that are critical to the future vitality of our region."
McCargo intends to continue his involvement in the Atlanta region, where he has served as co-chair of the Partnership Gwinnett initiative that was named the top economic development program in the United States by the American Chamber of Commerce Executive Association. Last year, he served as chairman of the Board of the Gwinnett Chamber of Commerce, and he now leads the Metro Atlanta Chamber's Technology Council.
Most recently, McCargo was appointed by the Gwinnett County Board of Commissioners to serve as co-chair of a newly formed citizens committee, Engage Gwinnett, tasked with studying the county's five-year budgeting needs.
Renee Byrd-Lewis will continue McCargo's leadership role with Cisco. For the past year, she has been responsible for the day-to-day operations of the Scientific Atlanta Foundation. Additionally, her role includes establishing and executing the community relations strategy for Cisco's Atlanta site, including service on multiple boards, such as the Gwinnett Medical Center Foundation, Georgia Gwinnett College Foundation and the Gwinnett Chamber Board of Directors.
