Prep roundup: Archer wins inaugural game

SNELLVILLE - Rachael Cash went 1-for-2 with three RBIs while Taylor Albritton had two hits and scored two runs as Archer won its varsity debut 3-2 over Shiloh in the South Gwinnett Diamond Classic at Shiloh on Friday.

Alliyah Williams, who added two hits and a run, was the winning pitcher, allowing two runs on five hits with 11 strikeouts in five innings.


Brookwood 11, GAC 2

SNELLVILLE - Julia Westbrook went 3-for-3 with a home run and three RBIs on Friday as Brookwood opened its season with an 11-2 win over Greater Atlanta Christian in the South Gwinnett Diamond Classic at Brookwood.

Jessica Neidigh added two RBIs on three hits while Susan Norris went 3-for-4 with two runs for the Broncos. Also helping on offense were Rachel Rhodes (2-for-4, two RBIs) and Kellie Brewer (1-for-1, two runs, RBI).

Winning pitcher was Brandi Jones, who surrendered two hits with 10 strikeouts.

Brookwood 16, Monroe Area 0

SNELLVILLE - Brookwood pitcher Jessica Neidigh pitched three perfect innings with eight strikeouts as the Broncos (2-0) posted their second win of the night by beating Monroe Area 16-0 in the South Gwinnett Diamond Classic at Brookwood.

Offensively, Westbrook led the way, going 2-for-3 with a homer and three RBIs and three runs while Norris added two runs and two RBIs on three hits. Jones finished 3-for-4 with two RBIs and two runs while Michelle Ramos had two hits and two runs.

Other key contributors were Jenny Blackwell (1-for-1, two RBIs), Rhodes (hit, two RBIs) and Neidigh (2-for-4, two runs, RBI).

Eastside 3, GAC 2

SNELLVILLE - Eastside held on to beat Greater Atlanta Christian 3-2 on Friday in the South Gwinnett Diamond Classic at Brookwood.

Sarah Armstrong pitched well but took the loss for GAC (0-2), allowing three earned runs with five strikeouts. Brianna Stewart led the offense for GAC, going 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI while Sierra Lawrence and Christine Young each scored a run.

Collins Hill tops Shiloh and ELCA

SNELLVILLE - Kacey Hawkshead allowed just one hit in four innings with four strikeouts in leading Collins Hill to a 12-0 shutout over Shiloh in the South Gwinnett Diamond Classic at Shiloh on Friday.

Paige Sneed led the offense for the Eagles (1-0) with a 1-for-2 day, driving in two and scoring one while Brianna Cason added a triple, an RBI and two runs. Christina Parham also tripled in a run and scored while Ariele Patterson tripled and scored.

The Eagles mustered just two hits against Eagle's Landing Christian Academy but made them count as Collins Hill (2-0) held on to win 2-0. Parham had a double, stolen base and scored a run while Sammy Lenahan finished 1-for-3 with an RBI and a run.

Kayla Floor pitched six strong innings in securing the win, striking out 11 with two hits allowed.

North 6, Central 0

LAWRENCEVILLE - North Gwinnett opened its season with a 6-0 shutout over Central Gwinnett on Friday in the South Gwinnett Diamond Classic at Central.

Alex McDavid allowed one hit with four strikeouts in picking up the win while Heather Maddox paced the offense with a double and two RBIs. Kali Shimmin also went 2-for-3 while Cara Blenke, Lexi Anderson and McDavid each had one hit for North.

North 4, Providence 2

LAWRENCEVILLE - North's offense forged out eight hits as the Bulldogs held off Providence 4-2 in the South Gwinnett Diamond Classic at Central.

Jennifer Gray struck out six in notching the win while McDavid added a pair of doubles. Kaitlyn Smith and Anderson each had two singles while Caroline Rogers and Chelsea Spencer each had a hit for North (2-0).

For Providence, Morgan Johnston was 1-for-3 with an RBI while Jessie Kowalewicz was 1-for-3 with a run. Kylie Kleinschmidt struck out six in taking the loss.

Providence 10, Chamblee 0

LAWRENCEVILLE - Providence evened its record at 1-1 on Friday with a 10-0 blanking of Chamblee in the South Gwinnett Diamond Classic at Central.

Kleinschmidt pitched five innings with 11 strikeouts and one hit for the win while Cory Rodgers led the offense with a hit and two RBIs.

Johnston also went 2-for-3 while Bri Canady (two RBIs, run) and Alexis Baldy (hit, RBI, two runs) each had solid games.

Central 4, Chamblee 1

LAWRENCEVILLE - Central Gwinnett (1-1) shook off its opening-game loss to North on Friday by beating Chamblee 4-1.

Mountain View drops first two games

LILBURN - Mountain View fell twice in the first day of the South Gwinnett Diamond Classic at Parkview.

Parkview topped the Bears 5-2 in the opener. Brittney Vickey went 1-for-2 with an RBI for Mountain View while Breannah McCrary, Lindsey Baxter and Kaylee Hennelly each had a hit. Danielle Davis was charged with the loss, allowing five runs on five hits with six strikeouts.

In the second game, St. Pius topped the Bears 5-1. Taylor Miller went 2-for-2 with a run and two steals for Mountain View while Baxter had a hit. Brooke Stanford started for the Bears (0-2) and went five innings, giving up five runs with six walks and three strikeouts.

Norcross wins two

LILBURN - Norcross picked up two wins on Friday night in the South Gwinnett Diamond Classic at Parkview.

Joanna Jernigan and Heidi Shape each had two hits to help Norcross past Parkview 6-4. Diamond Deshields led the way in the second game by going 3-for-3 with an inside-the-park home run as the Blue Devils clipped St. Pius 7-5. Alexandra Foulke picked up the win against St. Pius.

Peachtree Ridge tops Forsyth Central and Jefferson

SUWANEE - Sam Pierannunzi collected six hits over two games with three RBIs and two steals in helping Peachtree Ridge to a pair of wins in the first day of the South Gwinnett Diamond Classic at Peachtree Ridge.

Sarah Walker allowed just one earned run in six innings with five strikeouts as the Lions beat Forsyth Central 7-2. Jana Brandelik logged the win in the second game as the Lions pounded Jefferson 14-3.

Gabby Bedard went 5-for-8 over two games with two RBIs and a steal while Sade Johnson added four hits and four RBIs. Chandler Frisbee and Ashley Sawdey also helped by going 3-for-6 with three RBIs each.

Evans 7, South 0

SNELLVILLE - Evans shut out South Gwinnett 7-0 on Friday in the South Gwinnett Diamond Classic at South Gwinnett. Evans pitchers held the Comets (0-1) to one hit, a single off the bat of Megan Truett.

Apalachee 2, Evans 0

SNELLVILLE - Shawnee Patterson had a triple and an RBI on Friday to help give Apalachee a 2-0 win over Evans in the South Gwinnett Diamond Classic at South Gwinnett.

Kristen Clark also singled for Apalachee (1-0) while Jordan Allen added a double.


Wesleyan splits in Sequoyah tournament

CANTON - Wesleyan opened its season with a split on Friday night, sweeping North Cobb 25-17, 25-15 but falling in three games to Columbus 17-25, 25-14, 21-15 in the first round of the Sequoyah tournament at Creekview.

Anna Keappler tallied 20 kills and 11 digs on the day while Maggie Smith recorded 45 assists. Alana Broe helped with five blocks while Grace Leah Baughn finished with 15 kills and eight digs.

Mill Creek beats GAC and Dunwoody

NORCROSS - Mill Creek swept both Greater Atlanta Christian and Dunwoody on Friday night to start its season 2-0.

The Hawks beat GAC 25-21, 25-22 and finished off Dunwoody 25-11, 25-22.

GAC (1-1) earned a split on the night with a 25-18, 25-6 sweep of Dunwoody, recording its first win in the forum in volleyball. Amanda Komisarow tallied 14 kills on the night for GAC while Catherine Chason dished 22 assists. Courtney Parker finished with 13 digs while Rachel Waldrop served five aces.
