BUFORD - Gwinnett police caught three members of a national motorcycle club with a small arsenal en route to a biker rally at Atlanta Motor Speedway, officials said.
The suspects, all residents of Pittsburgh, belong to the Sin City Titans Outlaw Motorcycle Club. A member of the Gwinnett police highway interdiction team stopped them on Interstate 85 near Buford for speeding in a Cadillac DTS, police said. Inside the luxury car, police found four handguns - one of which had been reported stolen by ATF agents - and a small amount of marijuana, Gwinnett police spokeswoman Cpl. Illana Spellman said. Two of the guns were hidden inside a panel in the trunk of the car, she said. The men indicated they were headed to the 32nd annual Biker's Roundup in Hampton. Spellman said the FBI had recently disseminated a law enforcement bulletin about possible motorcycle gang violence at the biker rally, which concludes Sunday. The driver, Ernest Jackson, 36, is charged with theft by receiving a stolen firearm and speeding. Passenger Melvin Bartcher, 22, is charged with theft by receiving a stolen firearm and marijuana possession, while Vernon Rogers, 33, faces charges of theft by receiving a stolen firearm and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. All three remained at the Gwinnett County Jail on Friday with varying bond amounts.More like this story
