LAWRENCEVILLE - Gwinnett Federal Credit Union has entered into a five-year partnership with the Aurora Theatre.
On Wednesday night before a special showing of the musical "Kiss Me, Kate," Gwinnett Federal, based in Lawrenceville, presented the downtown venue with a pledge of $125,000 to the theater's capital campaign and season sponsorship over the five-year partnership.
"What more than, 'Wow,' could I say?" Anthony Rodriguez, producing artistic director for the Aurora Theatre, said Thursday. "The partnership with Gwinnett Federal Credit Union is fantastic."
In its appreciation, the Aurora has dubbed its smaller studio the Gwinnett Federal Credit Union Studio.
"At a time when the economy was going to hell in a hand cart, I never thought we would get a new sponsor for the studio," Rodriguez said. "And to have Gwinnett Federal Credit Union come in as our knight in shining armor was spectacular. It really says a lot about their organization, and I hope it says a lot about ours ... that we will reflect well on their good name."
Gwinnett Federal began its relationship with the Aurora as a sponsor for the production of "Dracula" in October.
"As the credit union for Gwinnett County Public Schools, our primary focus has been on education," said Marshall Boutwell, Gwinnett Federal's president and CEO. "We strongly believe that the arts are an important component in education and our community. It seemed only natural to support both."
