Canizares returns to G-Braves

ATLANTA - Barbaro Canizares was on hold until Adam LaRoche arrived Saturday. But once the reacquired Atlanta Braves first baseman made it, Canizares was optioned back to Class AAA Gwinnett.

LaRoche, who hit 32 homers for Atlanta in 2006, had quite a travel adventure after his trade from Boston back to the Braves. He had a flight out of Baltimore to Boston delayed by bad weather for three hours on Friday, then had trouble getting to Atlanta on Saturday when a bomb scare at New York's LaGuardia Airport disrupted flights throughout the Northeast.

LaRoche didn't arrive at Turner Field until 2:55 p.m. - 75 minutes before the first pitch against the Los Angeles Dodgers. He batted sixth in the Braves order and drew a loud round of applause before his first at-bat, when he drew a walk.

Canizares was rushed to Turner Field from Gwinnett Stadium on Friday after the Braves dealt Casey Kotchman to the Red Sox for LaRoche. He was 0-for-4 with two strikeouts in a 5-0 loss to the Dodgers in the series opener.

Canizares will rejoin the G-Braves in Columbus, where they opened a four-game series Saturday night.
