SNELLVILLE - Whoever fatally shot a Conyers woman in a Target parking lot Sunday probably had one thing in mind: murder.
That's the opinion of Snellville police, who say the shooter - described by witnesses as a slim white male, about 5 feet 7 inches tall - wore a wig and fake mustache during the daylight attack. "It does not appear that robbery or carjacking was the motive," Snellville police Chief Roy Whitehead said Tuesday. Police are banking on parking lot surveillance photos to shed light on the gunman. Footage sent to the retailer's own forensics laboratory is expected to be distilled into enhanced photographs by the end of the week, Whitehead said. Heather Strube, 25, died Sunday evening of a single gunshot to the head after a squabble with the shooter outside the Ga. Highway 124 store. The parking lot served as a rendezvous point for Strube and her estranged husband, Steven Strube, 25, of Lilburn. He had just met her there to hand over their 18-month-old son. The two were in the process of finalizing a divorce, and Heather Strube had recently been staying with a friend in Winder, police said. After Steven Strube drove away from the scene, the suspect approached Heather and shot her near the driver's side door of her Cadillac Escalade. Witnesses heard her yell for help before the gunshot rang out, police said. Steven Strube continues to be interviewed by police but has not been charged. The couple's son remains with his maternal grandparents, Whitehead said. Heather Strube worked at a flower shop owned by her parents in Conyers and had formerly owned a similar shop in Newton County.More like this story
