Jo Robinson Vickers departed peacefully on April 23, 2009 at the age of 84. A beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, daughter, sister, aunt and friend, she was known for her understated elegance, creativity and sharp intellect. She carried herself with poise and a quiet dignity. Her life was marked by a devotion to family and friends, a strong work ethic and kindness toward all. She spent her formative years and most of her life caring for her parents and raising four children in Wrightsville, GA. Early in her career, she was employed as a telephone operator with Southern Bell Telephone & Telegraph Company. Later she worked for the U.S. Government, Department of Agriculture at the Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Service in Johnson County. After retirement, she relocated to the Atlanta area living with her daughter, Beverly. Having an extraordinary range of interests and blessed by the gift of creativity, she made beauty manifest by her signature touch. Whether by designing a dress, arranging flowers, building a fence or planting a garden, her talent was shaped by an artistic eye leaving an indelible and enduring impression. She had great love for the out-of-doors and a zest for life that was infectious embracing people of all ages. During the past few years, she bravely waged without complaint an heroic battle with renal cancer. Her indomitable and tenacious spirit was a testament to her faith and to the strength of her character. The arc of her life bends toward heaven as her work on earth is done. Now the echo of her life resonates like a perfectly played grace note leaving all who love her with its lingering beautiful sound. Predeceased by her parents, Jack & Lucinda C. Robinson, Sr., aunt, Lena Jo Robinson, brothers, Jack Robinson, Jr., Marvin Pierce Robinson, and Andy Robinson, sisters, Lucy R. Coleman and Bevil R. Hicks, son-in-law, Dallas G. Burchfield, Sr. and her loving daughter, Anne V. Burchfield, she is survived by her daughter, Beverly Carey Stokley (Steve) of Suwanee, GA, daughter, Marjorie Jo Vickers of Miami, FL, son, Ed Vickers of Wrightsville, GA, granddaughter, Jada Vickers of Alpharetta, GA, grandson, Dallas G. Burchfield, Jr. (Natalie) of Norcross, GA, granddaughter, Kelly Jo Cunningham of Cincinnati, OH, great-granddaughter, Sophia Anne Cunningham of Cincinnati, OH, and deeply loved and treasured nieces and nephews, extended family and circle of friends. The family will receive friends Sunday, April 26th, from 3:00-8:00 p.m. at Crowell Brothers Funeral Home.
