LAWRENCEVILLE - Four years after she resigned from the Legislature to become Gwinnett's first female Juvenile Court judge, Phyllis Miller will leave the bench.

According to a press release issued Thursday, Superior Court judges, who appoint the circuit's Juvenile Court judges, voted against reappointing Miller to the job.

She will continue to serve until her term expires July 7, and judges are expected to consider applications to fill the vacancy.

Chief Superior Court Judge Dawson Jackson was not available for comment Thursday afternoon, and the press release did not state a reason for the decision.

Miller also did not return a phone call. A former prosecutor and divorce attorney, she served one year in the House of Representatives before being named judge.
