UGA's Curran gets state award
Georgia linebacker Rennie Curran, a Brookwood grad, was named the state's college athlete of the year by the AAG Foundation. Curran will be honored during the organization's charity weekend April 30-May 2 in Atlanta along with other award winners like Hank Aaron and Alonzo Mourning.
Presten runs personal best in Boston Marathon
Parkview teacher Beth Presten beat her personal-best time on Monday in finishing the prestigious Boston Marathon. The USA FIT Gwinnett runner finished the race in 3 hours, 31 minutes, 12 seconds, taking eight minutes off her previous best.
In other USA FIT Gwinnett news, Scott Kelley of Suwanee ran the Shamrock Half Marathon in Virginia Beach in 1:56:48 and Dave Lebel of Lawrenceville finished the Atlanta ShamRock N Roll 5K in 33:02.
Sunbelt Senior Tour comes to Chateau Elan golf course
The Sunbelt Senior Tour's Greater Atlanta Senior Classic will be held at Chateau Elan this week. The golf tournament runs through Friday.
The Braselton course then will host the Tim Conley Invitational/Pro-Am on Saturday. The Sunbelt Tour then stays in the area for the April 29-May 1 Fallen Soldiers Charity Pro/Am.
Miller signs with Tech after being released by Bulldogs
ATLANTA - One day after being released from his Georgia scholarship, high school star Daniel Miller has landed with rival Georgia Tech.
Miller, a 6-foot-11 center at Loganville Christian Academy in suburban Atlanta, signed a financial aid agreement with Georgia Tech on Wednesday.
Miller adds to an already stellar recruiting class for the Yellow Jackets led by Naismith national player of the year Derrick Favors, a 6-9 center.

Michigan State will travel to North Carolina for the ACC/Big Ten Challenge. Matchups for the 11th annual men's basketball event were announced Wednesday.
The two teams in the NCAA title game will meet again Dec. 1. North Carolina defeated Michigan State 89-72 in the NCAA championship earlier this month.
Michigan will host Boston College on Dec. 2 as part of the event. Other matchups are Penn State at Virginia, Maryland at Indiana, Northwestern at North Carolina State, Virginia Tech at Iowa, Wake Forest at Purdue, Duke at Wisconsin, Florida State at Ohio State, Illinois at Clemson and Minnesota at Miami.
Rose voted NBA rookie of year
NORTHBROOK, Ill. - Derrick Rose, who led his hometown Bulls to the playoffs and restored hope to a franchise in disarray, was the runaway pick as the NBA's rookie of the year.
Rose became the third Bulls player to win the award Wednesday, joining Michael Jordan and Elton Brand. He received 111 first-place votes and 574 points from a national panel of sports writers and broadcasters; runner-up O.J. Mayo of the Memphis Grizzlies received five first-place votes and 127 points.
