Police search for two suspects in shooting

NORCROSS - One man is in the hospital and police are looking for the two men they said shot him Tuesday morning during a home invasion.

At about 11:30 a.m., police responded to a residence in the 5300 block of Lambert Drive after receiving a burglary-in-progress call, Gwinnett police spokeswoman Cpl. Illana Spellman said.

That's where they found that a Hispanic man had been shot and the couple who lived at the home had been struck but were uninjured.

Spellman said police believe the Hispanic man went to the home with two black men and knocked on the door.

"The couple who lived at the residence recognized and knew the Hispanic male," Spellman said. "The couple opened the door and the African-American males forced everyone inside the home at gunpoint."

The two suspects reportedly ransacked the home and demanded money. An altercation between the Hispanic man and the suspects ensued, Spellman said, leading one of the suspects to shoot the Hispanic man.

According to reports, the suspects took several items from the home before running away. Spellman said there are no "viable suspect descriptions" to release at this point.

Police do not believe the Hispanic man intended to rob the couple and their relationship - as well as the circumstances surrounding the incident - is under investigation.

Authorities are not releasing the victims' names but said the Hispanic man was taken to an area hospital where he is expected to undergo surgery.

Police urge anyone with information to call Crime Stoppers at 404-577-TIPS. Callers can remain anonymous and may be eligible for a reward of up to $2,000 for information leading to the suspects' arrest.
