Company announces Gwinnett expansion
Habasit America move brings 75 more jobs to county

SUWANEE - A worldwide manufacturer of power transmission, conveyor and processing belts has expanded its Gwinnett-based facilities and North American headquarters, officials announced Tuesday.

The 150,000-square-foot expansion of Habasit America represents a multi-million dollar investment in capital and will take current employment from 250 to 325 in the next year, according to a news release from the Gwinnett Chamber Economic Development.

"Habasit takes a tremendous interest in employee-value and satisfaction," Harry Cardillo, CEO of Habasit America, said. "That's what makes Gwinnett and metro Atlanta so attractive. A superior quality of life, strong educational system and highly skilled work force align directly with what Habasit values and finds essential to good business practices. We're happy with our decision to expand here and look ahead to a bright and prosperous future."

Habasit America will be using Georgia's Quick Start program, a customized work force training program, to train new employees and ramp up production in the new facility at 805 Satellite Blvd. in Suwanee, the news release states. Quick Start has provided customized training services to qualified businesses in Georgia for more than 40 years and is one of the state's key assets for supporting new and expanding business in the region.

U.S. Rep. John Linder, R-Duluth, said the Gwinnett Chamber of Commerce, through Partnership Gwinnett and the county's leadership, has worked hard to create a welcoming environment for businesses.

"Habasit's decision to remain and expand in Gwinnett and the state of Georgia is evidence of that, as well as Georgia's strength in providing international business with opportunities for growth and development within its borders," Linder said. "We are pleased to have Habasit here and congratulate them on this significant achievement amidst challenging economic times."

Gwinnett County is home to more than 430 international businesses, of which 84 are U.S. or North American headquarter locations.
