Gary Pirkle Park installs artificial turf on its fields

SUGAR HILL - The initial installation of synthetic turf at the 67-acre Gary Pirkle Park is done.

When the job is completed, the park will contain 255,000 square feet of artificial playing fields.

That will make the artificial fields some of the largest in the Southeast, and it will also make Gary Pirkle Park the first in Gwinnett County to have synthetic turf.

"The fields will be multi-purpose and can be marked for soccer, football, field hockey and lacrosse," community relations director Don Kelemen said. "The fields are low maintenance and can provide for year-round play."

Kelemen also said the fields, made by Delux Athletics, are quick draining and cushioned for safe play.
