Prep roundup: Lions Walsh hurls one-hitter

SUWANEE - Peachtree Ridge starter Jared Walsh fired a one-hit shutout on Friday night as the Lions blanked Norcross 3-0 in Region 7-AAAAA.

Walsh walked just one batter and struck out 11 in running his record to 3-0. He also went 2-for-3 at the plate with two doubles.

Michael Hudson delivered the big blow on offense for the Lions (9-11, 4-8) with a two-run double in the bottom of the fourth. Brandon Harwood and Nathan Chong each had a hit, while Jelaney Johnson added an RBI.

BASEBALL

Collins Hill 6, North 0

SUWANEE - Collins Hill's James Buckelew led the Eagles both on the mound and at the plate on Friday in leading the Eagles to a 6-0 shutout over North Gwinnett in Region 7-AAAAA.

Buckelew pitched a complete game, allowing just two hits with six strikeouts on the mound, while going 2-for-4 with two RBIs at the plate.

Michael Adams also went 2-for-4 with a solo home run for Collins Hill (14-6, 9-3), while Cameron Starling added a solo homer.

Grayson 5, Shiloh 2

SNELLVILLE - Bryce Bessette had a single, double and two RBIs on Friday night to help give Grayson a 5-2 win over Shiloh and a share of the lead in Region 8-AAAAA.

Travis Turner added two hits and two RBIs for the Rams (15-5, 6-2), while Joey LaRocca had two doubles and an RBI.

Anthony Duran (2-0) picked up the win on the mound, going 42/3 innings with two earned runs allowed. Jo Jo Cruz pitched the final 21/3 innings with three strikeouts for his fourth save.

Dacula 21, Berkmar 1

LILBURN - Dacula's offense forged out 20 hits on Friday as the Falcons erupted for a 21-1 win in four innings over Berkmar in Region 8-AAAAA.

Brad Mill led the charge, going 2-for-4 with five RBIs, including a three-run homer, while Jeremy Kien drove in four runs on two doubles. Oliver Pratt went 3-for-3 with four RBIs, while Chris Owens (2-for-3, two RBIs), Billy Judd (3-for-4, two RBIs), Lance Jenkins (2-for-4, RBI) and Tyler Jarvis (3-for-4) each helped in the win.

Zach Breaux (2-3) pitched four innings for the win, allowing two hits and one unearned run with seven strikeouts.

Parkview 11, Central 1

LILBURN - Three Parkview players hit home runs Friday night as the Panthers topped Central Gwinnett 11-1 in five innings in Region 8-AAAAA.

Austin Wheeler and Matt Olson each belted two-run homers, while Brandon Jacobs (2-for-3) added a solo shot for Parkview (10-9, 6-2). Kenny Miller also went 2-for-4 with two RBIs, while sophomore Travis Naraine doubled for his first varsity hit.

Jordan McCoy (3-3) pitched all five innings for the win, allowing one run on four hits with five strikeouts.

Chattahoochee 6, Duluth 5

DULUTH - Chattahoochee edged Duluth Friday night 6-5 in Region 7-AAAAA action.

Stephen Robinson went 2-for-3 with a solo home run for Duluth (5-14, 2-10), while Alex Raffensperger added a solo homer. Evan Dumas also went 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI while Wesley Newton finished 2-for-4.

Blake Birdson was charged with the loss, despite allowing just one run in 31/3 innings of relief.

GAC 22, Avondale 7

NORCROSS - Greater Atlanta Christian evened its Region 6-AA record at 3-3 on Friday night with a 22-7 pounding of Avondale in three innings.

John LaMay went 2-for-3 with three RBIs as GAC (7-9 overall) collected 11 hits. Ian Graham went 2-for-2 with a triple and two RBIs, while Andrew Steckenrider added two hits with two RBIs. Taylor Hamm was the winning pitcher.

Blessed Trinity 3, Buford 2

ROSWELL - Buford scored two runs in the top of the first on Friday night, but Blessed Trinity fought back to take a 3-2 win over the Wolves with a solo home run in the bottom of the seventh.

Jeb Dills went 61/3 innings for Buford (7-10, 2-4), surrendering three runs on five hits with eight strikeouts. Buford managed just two hits on the night, getting a double from Cody Getz and a single from Tyler White.

Killian Hill 10, Barnes Academy 0

LILBURN - Kyle Bailey went 2-for-3 with three RBIs on Friday night in leading Killian Hill to a 10-0 shutout in five innings over Barnes Academy.

Bailey (1-0) also pitched four innings in earning the win, allowing one hit with two walks and two strikeouts. Austin Parks also added two hits and two RBIs for Killian Hill (9-1, 8-0).

BOYS LACROSSE

Wesleyan 14, Chattahoochee 1

NORCROSS - Wesleyan ran its record to 13-1 on Friday as the Wolves cruised to a 14-1 win over Chattahoochee.

Leading Wesleyan was Hunter Hartwell with three goals and three assists, while Davis Brown added three goals. Harrison Cheeley finished with two goals and two assists while Drew Daniels added a pair of goals.

Etowah 10, Collins Hill 7

WOODSTOCK - Etowah outdueled Collins Hill 10-7 on Friday.

Connor Squires scored five goals with two assists for Collins Hill (3-7), while Hays Hoey had two goals with five assists.

GIRLS LACROSSE

Peachtree Ridge 15, North Cobb 15

SUWANEE - Jennifer Hennelly finished with seven goals Friday night and reached her 60th goal for the season as Peachtree Ridge battled North Cobb to a 15-15 tie.

Alex Crawford added three goals for the Lions (4-6-2), while Rachel Harper and Kristyn Nock each scored two. Keeper Erin Palanza finished with 12 saves, while Katheryn Spencer scored one goal.

GIRLS TRACK

Collins Hill sets record in Volunteer Classic

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. - Collins Hill set a new county record in the distance medley relay at 11:59.44 on Friday at the Volunteer Classic at the University of Tennessee.

The win, which qualified the Eagles for the Nike Outdoor Nationals, was run by Nicky Adande, Sydney Williams, Vicky Winslow and Amanda Winslow.

Brookwood's boys team of Kyle Pearson, Carlos Galindo, Nganda Gatei and Joe Sokohl also ran the event and took fourth at 10:45.42. Collins Hill's boys placed sixth.
