Berkeley Lake tables cell tower ordinance

BERKELEY LAKE - City Council members decided Thursday to table a proposed cell tower ordinance in order to give city staff more time to review specific issues.

According to Mayor Lois Salter, two companies already have approached the city to locate a tower within city limits.

Parts of the proposed Berkeley Lake ordinance have been based on the city of Roswell's cell tower ordinance. According to Councilwoman Rebecca Spitler, "We are not in a hurry to make a decision about whether to have a cell tower here."

Residents turned out in numbers to hear discussions about the proposed legislation. City administrator Tom Rozier said that the issue will be on the May meeting agenda, as he expects to have completed his research on the matter by then.

In other news, construction of the new City Hall is still on target, according to Barbara Carroll, head of the committee that has coordinated the entire project. Although 11 days of rain have slowed the project at times, June 8 is still the target date.
