Prep Roundup: Szathmary tosses complete game for North

HOSCHTON - Daniel Szathmary threw a complete game, struck out three batters and gave up five hits to help North Gwinnett top Mill Creek 5-2 on Wednesday.

Scotty McQueen went 2-for-2 with two hits including a pinch-hit home run and Connor Jenkins was 2-for-4 with an RBI for North (10-9, 7-4).


Norcross 7, Chattahoochee 0

ALPHARETTA - Nathan Mitzel struck out nine batters, gave up two hits, and no runs in seven innings for Norcross, helping the Blue Devils shut out Chattahoochee 7-0 on Wednesday.

Danal Slay went 3-for-4 with three runs, two doubles and an RBI, and Beau Buckler was 2-for-3 with four RBIs for Norcross (8-12, 4-6).

Peachtree Ridge 6, Northview 3

DULUTH - Peachtree Ridge beat Northview 6-3 in nine innings on Wednesday.

Chris Brunatti got the game-winning single in the ninth and Jared Walsh went 3-for-5 with a double.

Mitchell Williford was 2-for-5 with a double and Nathan Chong also went 2-for-4 for the Lions (8-11, 3-8).

Aidan McLaughlin pitched a complete game, giving up an earned run, six hits, a walk and striking out 12 batters for Peachtree Ridge.

Brookwood 6, Central 1

SNELLVILLE - Matt Adams gave up two hits in five innings as Brookwood took a 6-1 victory against Central Gwinnett on Wednesday.

Wade Brodgon went 2-for-3, Tremaine Torrie was 2-for-2 and Ronnie Freeman went 1-for-2. Stephen Neidigh, Cameron Hall and Jacob Beauchamp each went 1-for-1 and Michael Moeck went 1-for-4 for the Broncos (11-6).

South 14, Berkmar 0

LILBURN - Kevin Caldwell gave up a hit and struck out seven in five innings to help South Gwinnett shut out Berkmar 14-0 on Wednesday.

Brett Teschner was 3-for-4 with six RBIs and three home runs and Adam Finkenhoefer was 3-for-3 with three RBIs. Corey Benson went 2-for-3 with a home run for the Comets (19-6, 4-2).

Collins Hill 8, Duluth 1

SUWANEE - Reed Buck threw 61/3 innings and gave up a walk, three hits and struck out six batters to help Collins Hill beat Duluth 8-1 on Wednesday.

Grant Earls went 3-for-3 with a home run and five RBIs, and Michael Adams was 2-for-4 with two runs. Alex Sokolowski was 2-for-2 with three runs and an RBI for Collins Hill (12-6).

Parkview 3, Grayson 2

LILBURN - Kenny Miller went 1-for-3 with a walk while the bases were loaded to score the winning run and help Parkview beat Grayson 3-2 on Wednesday.

Zack Olson (5-2) got the win after going seven innings, giving up four hits, two runs, no earned runs, a walk and striking out seven for Parkview. Austin Wheeler and Brandon Kregel each went 1-for-3, while Matt Foster was 2-for-2 with a home run for Parkview. Michael Frazier went 2-for-3 with an RBI for the Panthers (9-8, 5-1).

Dacula 7, Shiloh 5

SNELLVILLE - Austin Meyer (2-1) threw five innings and gave up seven hits, four earned runs and struck out three batters to help Dacula take a 7-5 win over Shiloh on Wednesday.

Adam Nigh got his first save after striking out one batter and not allowing any runs in two innings. Steven Williams was 3-for-3 with three RBIs and Tyler Jarvis was 2-for-3 with two doubles. Jeremy Kien went 2-for-4 with two RBIs and Lance Jenkins totaled 2-for-4 with an RBI for Dacula (6-10, 1-5).

GAC 12, Blessed Trinity 9

NORCROSS - Taylor Bruner went 2-for-3 with three runs to help Greater Atlanta Christian take a 12-9 win over Blessed Trinity on Wednesday.

Ian Graham was 3-for-4 with two runs, and Justin Ernest got the win after giving up four hits in four innings for GAC (6-8).

Westminster 7, Buford 4

BUFORD - Buford fell to Westminster 7-4 on Wednesday.

Josh Rudnik got the loss after pitching five innings and giving up four runs and striking out five batters for the Wolves (6-9, 1-3).

At the plate, Rudnik hit a solo home run and Cody Getz had a double and an RBI. Adam Schrader had a hit and an RBI for Buford.

Hebron 21, Prince Avenue 4

ATHENS - Hebron defeated Prince Avenue 21-4 on Wednesday.

Jamie Holt got the win after pitching three innings and striking out three batters. Ben Mason was 4-for-5 with four RBIs, while Jordan Hillyer and Danny Lockhart each went 3-for-4 with two RBIs. Mike Wilkerson was 3-for-5 with two RBIs and Lance Dutton finished with three RBIs for Hebron (13-2, 6-2).


Dacula 7, Shiloh 1

SNELLVILLE - Luis Huertas scored three goals for Dacula as the Falcons topped Shiloh 7-1 on Wednesday.

Ado Junuzovic scored two goals and had two assists, while Jamie Gleeson added a goal with two assists for Dacula. Derek Jones also chipped in a goal for Dacula (9-8, 5-3).

Peachtree Ridge 2, North Gwinnett 1

SUWANEE - Peachtree Ridge defeated North Gwinnett 2-1 on Wednesday.

Chris Cook and Garrett McClurg scored Peachtree Ridge's goals, while Adam Schraudenbach helped with both assists for Peachtree Ridge. Tyler Young and Mitch Kupstas split duty in goal for Peachtree Ridge (13-5, 5-3).

Providence 3, Wesleyan 0

LILBURN - Providence shut out Wesleyan 3-0 on Wednesday.

Sam Lutz scored two goals, while Ryan Mozzone added a goal for Providence. Taylor Sykes assisted the goal by Mozzone for Providence (9-5, 7-3).


Wesleyan 2, Providence 1

LILBURN - Kenzie Wuinn and Paige Pickert each scored a goal to help Wesleyan beat Providence 2-1 on Wednesday and clinch a spot in the playoffs.

Meagan Hall and Pickert each helped with an assist for the Wolves (15-4).

Northview 2, Duluth 1

DULUTH - Laura Diaz scored Duluth's (6-10) only goal as the Wildcats fell to Northview 2-1 on Wednesday.


GAC splits in 6-AA tournament

ATLANTA - GAC eked by Buford to start its day in the Region 6-AA tournament at Westminster, but fell to the hosts in its second match, setting up a match for third with Lovett today.

GAC got wins from Will Lewis (No. 1 singles), Jake Montgomery and Mark Knauss (No. 1 doubles) and David Floyd and Blake Guy (No. 2 doubles) to beat Buford 3-2. Fletcher Cline (No. 2 singles) and Preston Benson (No. 3 singles) picked up the wins for Buford. The Spartans lost 3-0 to Westminster.

Parkview 5, Dacula 0

SNELLVILLE - Parkview shut out Dacula 5-0 on Wednesday.

Thomas Cook, Ethan Motz and Lance Mengel each won at singles for Parkview. Tony Tran and Kirk Arza won at No. 1 doubles, Brandon Patrick and Tom Levengood helped out at No. 2 doubles for the Panthers.

Wesleyan boys win region tennis title

ATLANTA - Wesleyan shut out Paideia 3-0 in the semis, and beat Mt. Pisgah 3-0 in the finals on Wednesday.

Against Paideia, Brooks Prettyman won at No. 3 singles, David Rodriguez and Erik Trum helped at No. 1 doubles. Tyler Hediger and Ryan Jackson won at No. 2 doubles for Wesleyan.

In the finals against Mt. Pisgah, Robby Shackelford won at No. 2 singles, and Prettyman won at No. 3 singles for Wesleyan. Hediger and Jackson won No. 2 doubles for Wesleyan.

Hebron 3, Tallulah Falls 2

ATHENS - Hebron beat Tallulah Falls 3-2 on Wednesday.

Stephen Burslem earned a point at No. 1 singles, while Brandon Finke and Jack Griffin added a point at No. 1 doubles. Kyle Donatucci and Robert Hunt helped at No. 2 doubles for the Lions.


Brookwood 3, Grayson 1

SNELLVILLE - Jordan Johnston and Leah Pridgeon each won at singles for Brookwood as the Broncos beat Grayson 3-1 on Wednesday.

Molly McClintock and Emily Gray won at No. 2 doubles for Brookwood, and Holly Craig and partner Caitlin Smith won at No. 1 doubles for Grayson.

SNELLVILLE - Parkview shut out Dacula 3-0 on Wednesday.

Cara Motz and Jordan DeArmon each won at singles, while Rebecca Streich and Anna Fluevog won at No. 1 doubles for Parkview.

Collins Hill 4, North Forsyth 1

LAWRENCEVILLE - Erin Ensley and Emily Flood each scored a point for Collins Hill at singles to help the Eagles beat North Forsyth 4-1 on Wednesday.

Kelly Sullivan and Cassie Owensby earned a point at No. 1 doubles, and Abby Owensby and Kaitlin Torky won at No. 2 doubles.

Wesleyan girls win region tourney

ATLANTA - The Wesleyan girls beat Providence 3-1 in the region championship on Wednesday.

Chelsea Michael won at No. 2 singles, while Brittany Price and Caroline Payne won No. 1 doubles. Julie Rodriguez and partner Catherine Sutcliff helped out at No. 2 doubles for the Wolves.

Spartan girls reach 6-AA finals

ATLANTA - GAC beat Decatur 5-0 and Westminster 3-2 in the region tournament to set up a showdown for the 6-AA title today against Blessed Trinity.

Against Dacula, Morgan Winston (No. 1), Jessica Tuggle (No. 2) and Melissa Puntkattalee (No. 3) earned the singles' points for the Spartans. Charlotte Greenwood and Margaret Sharpe (No. 1) and Emma Deal and Taylor Boven (No. 2) picked up the doubles' points.

Winston won in singles and Elizabeth McMurray and Rebecca Gray (No. 1 doubles) and Rachel Gray and Jacqueline Tate (No. 2 doubles) picked up the final points for GAC against Westminster.

Lovett 3, Buford 0

ATLANTA - Lovett swept passed Buford 3-0 in the first round of the Region 6-AA tournament on Monday.

Hebron moves to region finals

ATHENS - Hebron shut out Tallulah Falls 3-0 and beat Lakeview Academy 3-2 to move onto the region finals on Wednesday.

In the first match, Sarah Hedrick and Taylor Hardin each won at singles, while Jorie Weirather and Mini Schulte earned a point at doubles for Hebron.

Against Lakeview Academy, Hedrick won at No. 1 singles, and Weirather and Schulte won at No. 1 doubles, while Virginia Goss and Allie Klaubert helped out at No. 2 doubles.


Dacula sneaks past Grayson 170-171

DACULA - Tyler Roberts shot a 40 to help Dacula beat Grayson 170-171 on Wednesday. Trent Burkenpas helped Grayson out with a low score of 42.

Norcross beats Dacula 147-161

LAWRENCEVILLE - Norcross topped Dacula 147-161 on Wednesday at Northwood Country Club. Josh Klipstien shot a low score of 35 for Norcross, while Duluth's Justin Cho also shot a 35.

Mill Creek tops Collins Hill 152-172

HOSCHTON - Shawn Yim shot a low of 35 to help Mill Creek defeat Collins Hill 153-172 on Wednesday. Chris Rajek shot a 39 for Collins Hill.


GAC comes in second at tri-meet

BALL GROUND - Greater Atlanta Christian shot an 81 to come in second place at a Tri-Meet against Blessed Trinity (80) and Westminster (95) on Wednesday.

Lindsay Adams shot a 35 for the Spartans.

Wesleyan 68, Riverwood 75

SMYRNA - Taylor Blair shot a low score of 33, and Brooke Atkinson added a 35 for Wesleyan as the Wolves beat Riverwood 68-75 at Legacy Links on Wednesday.

Duluth 107, Norcross 123

LAWRENCEVILLE - Casey Nellums shot a 51 to help Duluth beat Norcross 107-123 on Wednesday. Katie Bostick added 59 for Norcross.

Mill Creek 72, Collins Hill 82

HOSCHTON - Mill Creek beat Collins Hill 72-82 on Wednesday afternoon.

Emilie Burger scored a 33 for Mill Creek, while Jackie Rajek shot a 41 for Collins Hill.


Wesleyan 14, Peachtree Ridge 10

NORCROSS - Kelsey Sanders scored five goals, while Courtney Batchelor added four goals for Wesleyan as the Wolves (5-8) defeated Peachtree Ridge 14-10 on Wednesday.


Mill Creek sweeps tri-meet

HOSCHTON - Mill Creek's boys and girls track team's won tri-meets with Flowery Branch and Apalachee on Tuesday.

The boys team scored 81 points with three individual winners. Joey Mooney was first in the 110 and 300 hurdles, Michael Kopanski was won the pole vault and Jake Hodge was tops in the triple jump.

The girls team held off Flowery Branch 86-79. Suzee Mills was first in the discus and shot put, Joy Collier was tops in the 400-meter run and Carson Simpson won the pole vault.
