WINDER - Authorities uncovered a small marijuana-growing operation this week in the home of a 55-year-old Statham man, police said.
Acting on a tip, Barrow County Sheriff's Office investigators went undercover to arrest Lonnie Jones at his home in the 3100 block of Ga. Highway 330 on Monday. Narcotics investigators seized 78 young marijuana plants and three ounces of the cultivated drug in Jones' home, Sheriff's Office spokesman Investigator Matt Guthas said. "The plants themselves were young, but each had the potential of producing approximately one pound of marijuana when fully grown," Guthas said. The three ounces of dried marijuana are worth about $2,500 on the street, according to narcotics agents. Jones is charged with manufacturing, trafficking and possessing marijuana with intent to distribute the drug. He posted $51,000 bond and was released from the Barrow County Detention Center on Thursday, Guthas said.More like this story
