NORCROSS - To help fight identity theft, Debbie Dykes' Allstate Agency and Shredderman Document Destruction Services of Cumming will be complimentarily shredding personal papers and business documents in the parking lot at Dykes' office. The event takes place April 17, 2009 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 6316 Spalding Drive.
"The event is a great way for Allstate and our agency to give back to the community," Dykes said. "People need a way to dispose of old, unneeded papers and records that may contain personal and financial information."
The Federal Trade Commission estimated in 2007 that about nine million Americans are the victims of identity theft annually. The group also estimated that 10 percent of all identity theft victims need at least 55 hours of their time to resolve their issues, and the top five percent of that group needs 130 hours or more.
